Early Corian was a synthetic solid surface developed by DuPont. It was a nylon like counter-top material that was very popular. It has been reengineered and enhanced to increase its resistance to heat resistance and scratching. Many people have been upgrading from laminate or granite to Corian quartz counter-tops.
